Canadian Rockies Orienteering Festival Postponed until 2022

Postponement of the 2020 Canadian Rockies Orienteering Festival until 2021

With all the uncertainty surrounding Covid-19 and in line with other sporting events, the 2020 Canadian Rockies Orienteering Festival (CROF) including the 2020 Canadian Orienteering Championships (COCs), Western Canadian Orienteering Championships (WCOCs)

Crowsnest Barebones events and the Sass Peepre National Training Junior Camp scheduled to take place in July 3-12, 2020 have been postponed until 2021.

This will be a disappointment for many, as it is to the organizers, but we feel at this time, it is the only responsible decision to make. We do not take this decision lightly, as 2020 will be the first time that the Canadian Orienteering Championships will not be held since the first COCs in 1968.

The Canadian Rockies Orienteering Festival will be rescheduled for the summer of 2021, again with the Kootenay Orienteering Club hosting the COCs, the Foothills Orienteering Club the WCOCs and the Alberta Orienteering Association organizing the Crowsnest Barebones events.

The dates for the CROF event in 2021 are still to be determined. We will decide on the dates as the dates of other events (the IOF events and the NAOCs if they are postponed, etc) are determined.

We will contact all the registrants to date and will provide them an option to defer their registration until 2021 or receive a refund.

The Toronto Orienteering Club was planning to host the 2021 COCs. They have now agreed to host the 2022 COCs. The Yukon Orienteering Association and the Manitoba Orienteering Association were due to host the Western Canadians Orienteering Championships in 2021 and 2022 respectively. They have both agreed to host the WCOCs in 2022 and 2023 respectively.

The Orienteering Canada AGM will be held electronically at a date in 2020 to be determined. Orienteering Canada will explore ways to host the Conference virtually.

We wish all the orienteering community the best and hope that you find innovative, fun ways to maintain your orienteering skills, fitness and health. We encourage you to stay connected and share your stories and successes. We look forward to seeing many of you next summer, orienteering and socializing in the Canadian Rockies.

Stay Safe. Stay Healthy.
